i will be a senior next year. i love volleyball and want to join the team (i havent played since 9th grade) so i am not very good, but promised myself i'd practice all summer. i asked some girls if i could join their summer practice team which is once a week, and they said no, because they only wanted girls that have been playing all through high school to be on it. they didnt think i'd be able to catch up or that i'd put my full effort into it. it really brought me down and it was embarassing. should i even continue on with my goal? will it be worth the effort and time? i want to prove to these girls that they are wrong. but honestly i dont know if i'd be able to catch up. i figured if i practiced every day while they only practiced once i week i may have a chance...but idk...i dont know what to do...Need some words of encouragement, advice, or something....i was just humiliated?
Unfortunately some people can be very cruel and insensitive. Don't worry about them turning you down . Keep paracticing over the summer and with determination(which I see you have) you will make it on the team next year. If you really want anything in life you have to work hard and never give up on your dreams. The girls who turned you down will regret there decision when you outshine them all next season!!! Don't doubt yourself and keep upop the good workNeed some words of encouragement, advice, or something....i was just humiliated?
Don't listen to them, practise with friends and family, or keep turning up to their practices and insist that you want to play. When they see how keen you are, they'll know that you have the commitment. ALternatively, set up your own volleyball practice where anyone can play. It's a fun game, everyone should be allowed.
Good luck!
There's no reason to feel humiliated or give up.
It would be worse for the team and for you if you joined and then you found you were out of your depth. I imagine practicing on your own wouldn't be as good, since it's a team game. Are there other people you could practice with?
Use it as motivation to beat them all. Yes, you should continue. By the way, only you allow yourself to be humiliated. It's not in any way your fault, but you'd be a lot better off if you could develop self-worth that isn't as dependent on other people. Best wishes.
Find another team to practice with and never let anyone deter you from what you want to do or accomplish in life. Don't be humiliated. Work hard, play hard and show them that you are giving all your effort to become the best player you can be.
I don't know if I would want to be on a team that discourages people anyway. But I most certainly would find a team or build a team of people that DO know what the word ';TEAM'; means. Good luck! I hope you play them at the end of the summer and kick their sorry butts!
If this is something that is important to you then you should follow it up. But I'm not sure if ';proving them wrong'; might be a healthy approach, as if they are just being mean then they will ostracise you even if you are good perhaps? And that would be upsetting for you.
Is there another volleyball team? I would recommend practising as much as you feel you would like to, and it doesn't matter what standard you get to as long as you enjoy playing.
I would hope there's another team, so you can play volleyball for whoever, without having to rely on one team that seems unwelcoming. If you get good with the other team, then the other team might want you back?
Still chase your dreams, but don't set yourself up for a fall :) There is usually an alternative way if you are creative enough, to achieve your dreams, but sometimes it isn't in the obvious way. Good luck :)
